How to Pack Valuable Artwork
Packing your items to move to a new location is hard enough. But, packing valuable and most often irreplaceable antiques or artwork is a completely different ball game. Needless to say it is always a good idea to hire the services of a professional artwork mover. So let’s begin there…
Before you start your moving process, always get your art work professionally valued and appraised. Take detailed pictures of the pieces as well. This way you have more leverage in case of damage or loss.
Once this is done, you need to call your movers to inspect the pieces. Professional art movers will only give you a detailed estimate once they have inspected the pieces that are to be moved. They also use climate controlled vehicles to avoid moisture and or other damage due to climate changes so it’s always a good idea to give them all the details about your collectibles.
Your artwork will be packed in a way that it will not damage or disturb the art work but will protect the integrity of the piece during the move. Professional packers always use plastic and or stretch plastic material to pack the piece of art work. Using this as a base, the packers will then put a soft wood covering over the piece. If the piece is over-sized, the packers will use stronger plastic and or a version of bubble wrap to secure the piece. The piece will then be taped to keep it comfortably snuggled in its packing. Thick cushioning or padding will also be used to protect the piece during the move.
