What preparations to make Before Moving Day
MOVING DAY! Alarm bells, panic..BATTLE STATIONS!!!!
Actually, you can avoid this last minute mayhem and torment very easily. Think of it this way, the actual move is the last thing that happens. The REAL work happens before that, behind the scenes as it were.
Do some good research to find a moving company that best suits your needs AND your budget. Word of mouth referrals work well because people will tell you what they REALLY experienced. Call around and once you have decided on the mover, make an appointment with them to come inspect your things and give you a detailed estimate. Now, while you are doing your research, it is important to declutter your home. You need to get rid of the stuff that you won’t be taking with you.
Once the estimate has been agreed upon, you need to get your packing done in a very systematic manner. Make sure the boxes are clearly market and itemized. Colored tags work wonders. Mark each box as to which room it needs to be unpacked in. This makes your unpacking as organized as your packing. There is an option for you to ask your movers to do your packing for you too.
Cleaning the house once the packing is done is always a good idea. Once all that is done, you are good to go. Make sure you sign the Bill of Lading. Read it over carefully and make sure that all the items you agreed on are included in the Bill coupled with the price you agreed on. But, keep in mind that there can be unforeseen issues while moving so keep a margin for additional charges that could occur.
